At VersaTruss supporting leading edge technology is always a priority so when Shell came to us looking to have a new Start and Finish line for their famous Eco Marathon, we were proud to oblige. As seen in the photos below, this is another prime example of how aluminum display truss provide the perfect venue for both indoor and outdoor start and finish line requirements.
The Shell Eco-marathon is one of the world’s leading energy efficiency competition programs. Students are challenged to design, build and test energy-efficient cars, pushing the boundaries of what is technically possible. Students take their designs to the track in the Mileage Challenge to see which vehicle can compete to go the farthest on the least amount of fuel. The Drivers’ World Championship sees winners from the Mileage Challenge marry the efficiency of their vehicles with the speed and skills of their driver to find the fastest energy-efficient driver.

For this application as with most start and finish lines, our four cord truss configuration was chosen. This archway is left standing for extended periods of time so harsh weather conditions could be a concern unless the archway is designed to withstand these extreme conditions. When a four cord archway is erected and properly anchored, it can withstand extreme weather conditions with ease.
